Jobs: Getting Arizona back to work

As a state legislator, I will work to remove the barriers and burdens placed upon businesses that discourage the expansion of existing business and businesses wanting to relocate to Arizona.

The state has lost 1 out of every 9 jobs since the summer of 2007. This is in excess of 325,000 jobs that no longer exist since December of 2007. Arizona is ranked last among all the states for job creation in 2009.

Arizona struggles to attract businesses from over the regulated Pacific Coast states. The state economy is heavily tied to the boom or bust cycle of the construction industry and funding for promoting the state’s second largest industry, tourism, has been cut.

Arizona needs to diversify its business base by targeting emerging technologies, R&D, corporate/regional headquarters, industrial manufacturing, logistics and distribution, aerospace and defense and renewable energy. The purpose is not just to restore growth, but to grow well.

EDUCATION

Education is crucial and critical to our state’s future. Funds wisely invested today in our education system will return dividends in the future of a skilled, trained, and educated work force that will compete in a global economy.

If Arizona is going to minimize the boom or bust business cycles, it needs to expand and diversify its economic and business base throughout the state. Businesses in research and development, manufacturing, industry, and emerging technologies need to be targeted and recruited to the state.

However, businesses will not come to Arizona unless there is a skilled workforce to employ. Therefore, it is crucial and critical that the state’s technical schools, trade schools, community colleges and universities teach the skills necessary to provide a trained and educated workforce.

Secure Arizona’s Border

As a Republican candidate for legislative district I support SB1070

  • As a state legislator, I will work to fund and enforce border security.
  • I will work to fund law enforcement to eradicate the lawlessness that dominates the drug and human smuggling corridors in Arizona.
  • I will work to secure the public’s safety in Arizona and along the border.
  • Arizonians need the safety that comes from a secure border.

Arizona does not need the problems of a catastrophic failure by the federal government to security the border to threaten the safety of our homes, our families, our property or our state.
