The only way for future
generations to be able to enjoy Gilbert as we do today is to have an
economically viable, sustainable and renewable community. In order to
achieve this objective, there must be balanced growth between
residential and business development.
In an economic analysis
of land use and sustainability, it was determined that Gilbert could
sustain 81 percent of its land for residential use, but needs at least
19 percent of its land for business development.
Currently, Gilbert has 16 percent of its land
use in business development. It is my continued goal to achieve an
economically viable, sustainable and renewable community. Wise planning today
will mean a successful and sustainable community tomorrow. advertisement
In order to attract
quality businesses with quality jobs, Gilbert must have a quality of
life that provides a rich cultural, educational and recreational
experience and opportunity for its citizens. Gilbert has many of the
elements of a quality of life in the form of its residential
subdivisions, parks, paths, trails and education. However, it needs to
develop its cultural component. Just as Gilbert developed a General
Plan for development, the town needs a master plan for quality of life.
Gilbert is ranked as one
of the safest communities in the nation. However, this accomplishment
could only have been achieved through the coordinated efforts of the
town, school districts and the citizens of the community. It also
required the council to make public safety a priority and to commit
financial resources to achieve its public safety objectives. I am
committed to keeping Gilbert safe.
The path to a quality of life, public safety with economic viability
and sustainability is only half complete. With your vote and continued
support, we can complete the task.
Steve Urie is a
Gilbert Town Council member seeking re-election.
