Steve Urie Skips Clean Elections: Steve Urie Skips Clean
Elections -LD 22 Candidate Switches to Traditional
Campaign Fundraising
Gilbert, AZ – Former Gilbert City Councilman Steve Urie,
Republican candidate for LD 22 House of Representatives,
announced today that in light of recent actions by the US
Supreme Court and the Citizens Clean Election Commission, he
would fund his candidacy as a traditional candidate rather
than running with Clean Elections funding.
"With the recent changes to Clean Elections funding in the
middle of the game, I feel it’s better to skip the confusing
and limiting system altogether and instead opt for
traditional funding." Urie said. He further stated, "I have
confidence that I'll have the resources to compete against
the other candidates who have opted to run as state funded
candidates."
Although Urie had collected sufficient $5 donations to
qualify for funding as a Clean Elections candidate, he did
not submit the donations pending the outcome of the recent
court actions. Those contributions will be returned to the
donors. "I am grateful to all of the supporters throughout
District 22 who contributed, but since the purpose for which
the donations were collected has changed, they will be
returned to the donors," Urie said.
Urie served the Gilbert Town Council for 11 years until
resigning this spring to run for state office. Under Steve’s
leadership, Gilbert has doubled its population and balanced
its budget every year.
"I know Steve will be the best person to represent District
22 and will be a fresh new voice for the Southeast Valley,"
said Jim Hayden. "He will be able to hit the ground running
and take some of the great ideas used in Gilbert to fix our
state."
Recognizing how an educated workforce is crucial to job
growth, Urie will focus on education and tax reform to
encourage development of emerging technological industries.
An ardent supporter of border security, Urie will work to
secure funding to enforce border security, and root out
human smugglers and drop houses.

Mayor John Lewis states
in
The Republic on March 31, 2010 "With
three new members on the council, Urie's
recollection of previous situations in analyzing
current issues brought a measure of wisdom to the
group. It's compliment to say he would look at the
details, the facts, bring that together and make a
decision that makes sense."
